The Plum Guide is on a mission is to build the definitive collection of the world’s best holiday homes. We are taking a systematic approach to testing every single home on the planet and accepting only the top 1%. Like a Michelin Guide - but for homes – available to all.

We do it by putting every home in a city through The Plum Test: a gruelling hospitality exam, which uses a mix of (top down) algorithms and physical visits by hospitality experts.

We launched 3 years ago. Since then we have grown 20% month on month; expanded to 12 cities; tested over 150,000 homes; developed a customer experience that’s returning the highest NPS scores in the sector.

We are backed by some of the world’s top entrepreneurs and VCs. These include the founders and backers of TransferWise, Citymapper, Zoopla, Secret Escapes, BuzzFeed, Appear Here, Graze, LoveFilm, and many more. We’ve recently closed a £14m Series B round of funding. Our focus for the next 12 months is on building an exceptional experience and brand; and taking Plum truly global. This is where you come in.

The Role

We are looking for the first US based Regional General Manager to run our North American cities: the CEO of your regions. You will be successful if you build and grow these cities. Specifically, success means that each city will hit its 3 KPIs:

  1. Revenue Growth: 15-20% month on month

  2. Unit Economic Profitability: break even within 12 months of launch   

  3. NPS: hitting scores in the top 1% percent of the travel industry

You will be instrumental in both hiring & overseeing a sales team for each city within your remit on both a full time people and freelancers basis. The full-time team in each market will consist of a Head of Growth (responsible for scaling our inventory) and a Collection Manager (responsible for ensuring only the best homes are accepted into the collection and managing the community of Home Critics and Photographers).

The Responsibilities 

  • Curate and design the definitive collection of your cities' most beautiful homes

  • Be an active part of the leadership team

  • Set the home acquisition strategy for each of your markets (price points, neighborhoods, sizes of homes, etc.) - especially with knowledge of the space in the North America

  • Hire a world class team of Heads of Growth and Collection Managers, who will report into you

  • Lead and inspire the team to perform at their best 

  • Work closely with the guest marketing team to ensure you are getting the right kind of traffic for your cities

  • Generally, improve our sales processes and systems

  • Operate in a matrixed environment with marketing, strategy, analytics, product, design, engineering, finance to push the business forward

  • Become an engine of innovation for the business and playbooking our global expansion

  • Be the public face of the organisation: setting the culture and evangelizing about the business both internally and externally.



We are looking for an individual who has:

  • Experience as a General Manager in a two-sided marketplace (ex-entrepreneurs a big plus)

  • A track record building commercial teams and running a P&L successfully

  • Experience in building, motivating and managing high performance sales teams

  • Unparalleled business judgement, analytical and critical thinking skills

  • The ability to use data to quickly establish highest value priorities and develop a strategy to pursue them

  • Highly iterative and ready to get stuff done

  • Unbelievably good at prioritising, multi-tasking and being deeply organised

  • Passionate about hospitality, travel and the idea of cracking the science behind the perfect stay
