The Plum Guide is on a mission is to build the definitive collection of the world’s best homes. Through expert human curation and innovative tech, we’re taking a scientific and systematic approach to vetting every home in every city we open, and accepting only the top 1%. Like a modern Michelin Guide - but for homes.

We launched 3 years ago in London. Since then, we have grown 15-20% month on month; expanded to 6 cities; tested over 100,000 homes; developed a customer experience that’s returning the highest NPS scores in the hospitality sector; and are on track to reach over £25M in annualised sales.

We are backed by some of the world’s top VCs and angel investors who have built many of the world’s most exciting companies of today. This is where you come in.

The Role 

Home Specialists are Plum’s superheroes. They showcase the best properties in London to prospective guests & business partners and learn how to put every home and host that applies to Plum, through the Plum Home Test. 

This is how we guarantee the quality of every home in the Collection. 

This is a freelance position. Most Viewing Agents do between 2 and 8 viewings a week (depending on the size of the home and the Home Critic’s availability) – and we ask for at least 3 months’ commitment to apply. 

What you’ll be up to

  • You will be acting as an ambassador of The Plum Guide conducting viewings with prospective and existing guests and business partners.

  • You will be selling the advantages of the properties that we have available in our collection. You will also be answering questions in regards to the property and Plum Guide Booking procedure.

  • You will ensure that The London City Sales Manager gets clear feedback on all viewings carried out.

  • You will learn how to meticulously collecting over 150 pieces of information about each home and recording this information in our Test Document. This includes things like shower height and pressure, bed sheet thread-count, noise decibel levels, and wifi signal. Of course, you will also need to assess the design and ‘feel’ of the home as well. Creating a floor plan, using the app ‘Magicplan’, installed on a tablet.  Writing a 100 word summary of the home for our team, with your recommendation on whether it should be listed on The Plum Guide website.

Finding beautiful homes is at the core of what we stand for. We take hiring the right Home Critics seriously and we’re looking for people who are up to the challenge. Please get in touch if you are: 

  • Passionate about design and hospitality: you have an opinion about what’s the perfect stay for Plum guests. You will be able to articulate the merits of each propriety and neighborhood in our collection.

  • Empathetic and attentive to detail: you can put yourself in the shoes of a Plum guest and pick up on all the details that might make or break their stay. You will be able to highlight the competitive advantages of the Plum Guide.

  • Committed: you can commit at least 3 months to this job and 10 hours per week. You will need to be available on weekends as well.

  • Efficient: you have high standards but can get the job done quickly - we have ambitious growth targets and need home critics to submit their tests on time

  • Punctual: you’re organized and always on time for appointments and meetings. 

  • Good with people: you’re a people-person, presentable and articulate.  You find meeting and getting to know new people easy - you regularly get told you to make a great first impression.

  • A fluent English speaker: you are fluent in English, so you can communicate effectively with our hosts and with our HQ team. 

  • A good writer in English: while you don’t need to be an excellent copywriter, we are looking for Home Critics who are able to write in descriptive detail about homes or travel experiences, to communicate to our HQ team whether a home should pass or not. 

  • A tablet owner: you own a tablet (or are prepared to purchase one for the job) which has a gyro sensor and is compatible with the app ‘Magicplan’.

Hours & Compensation

You will be paid between £27 for every 30 minutes viewing and £50- £75 per test. 

We do not compensate for travel (however, most tests will be conducted within the central areas of the city).

The application process will consist of a questionnaire and an interview. We will be assessing how you meet the criteria detailed in the ‘Requirements’ section of this job description. 

If you are successful, we will let you know by the end of August and aim to have you trained within a week.
